A Sustainable City In Charlotte County

A sustainable city is being built right here in south Charlotte County. That's right you heard me correctly, a completely sustainable city. Complete with parks, restaurants, schools and more.

In their own words "Babcock Ranch is an eco-centric new town embedded in nature and powered by the sun, innovation and the great outdoors." The entire city will be completely powered by solar and natural gas, it will have the largest solar farm ever constructed. According to Babcock Ranch "if you stacked the solar panels side by side it would stretch from Babcock to Chicago". The city will be the first state approved fully autonomous vehicle operation. For those of you wondering what fully autonomous means... driver-less cars!!

The city will be a fine addition to places to explore on any visitor's list, with restaurants and retail coming online in phase I.  A town center connecting multiple small areas, villages and neighborhoods with bicycle/pedestrian pathways, will be the center of activity.  Well under construction, the city is starting to take shape and buildings have started to come up in the downtown area. Babcock Ranch Eco-Tours is a unique family experience of 4 Florida eco-systems. Swamp buggy tours, walking trails, museum, souvenirs and Gator Shack Diner.

Babcock Ranch is an approximately 17,000-acre planned community under development in Southwest Florida that was approved as part of a public-private partnership strategy with the State of Florida and local governments.
